Mountain Lion in Brushy Creek?

This small news item on the front page of The Hill Country News print edition, May 7, caught my eye:

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office was contacted on May 4 about a "large cat" seen in South Williamson County.

The large cat, possibly a mountain lion, was seen in the area of Great Oaks and Racine Drive in the Brushy Creek Subdivision around 11 a.m. on Sunday. A resident took a picture of the cat's tail as it wandered off behind a tree. It is unclear from the picture exactly what kind of cat it is.

Anyone who sees any large cats should call 911.

A few days later a possible mountain lion was spotted in NW Austin. See story at the Hill Country Voice.

I located these two spots on Google maps, and an interesting feature of the surrounding area jumped out at me. The two spots are about 5 miles apart, and there is not much of anything but open land between them. There very well could be a single mountain lion that uses this area as its territory. See the map

Switch to "satellite view", zoom in and scan (drag the map with your mouse) to see what is in the area. Not much but vacant land and scrub brush.
