Low Water Pressure

Several emails circulated the neighborhood on Wednesday and Thursday concerning a general consensus that the water pressure seems low. Michell checked with the city and was able to get the city engineer to come out and install pressure-monitoring equipment to determine how bad the situation is.

She also noted that the city has recently put a new water tower on-line and that has significantly improved pressure in some parts of the city, although Overlook Estates has not yet experienced an improvement.

Michell said that the city is acutely aware of the situation and will do all that it can to make sure that we have adequate water pressure for safety and convenience.

Toll booths will be eliminated on 183A

From Austin Business Journal, June 25, 2008...

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority board has voted to eliminate cash collection on the toll road by the end of this year.

Roughly 80 percent of those who use 183A pay via TxTag, according to CTRMA. Consequently, it costs the authority nearly as much to operate the cash booths as it collects from those drivers.

Cashless toll collection on 183A is expected to take effect as early as November 2008. Once it begins, those drivers who do not have TxTags, Tolltags or EZ-Tags will still have to pay -- only later. CTRMA will implement a pay-by-mail program where cameras will take pictures of drivers' license plates and send them a bill in the mail for the toll.

FDA Requests Seizure of Animal Food Products at PETCO Distribution Center

From The US Food and Drug Administration, June 19, 2008...

From the advisory:

The distribution center in Joliet, Ill., provides pet food products and supplies to PETCO retail stores in 16 states including Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.

FDA has no reports of pet illness or death associated with consumption of animal food distributed by PETCO, and does not have evidence that the food is unsafe for animals. However, the seized products were in permeable packages and held under conditions that could affect the food's integrity and quality.

As a precaution, consumers who have handled products originating from the PETCO distribution center should thoroughly wash their hands with hot water and soap. Any surfaces that came in contact with the packages should be washed as well. Consumers are further advised as a precaution to thoroughly wash products sold in cans and glass containers from PETCO in the 16 affected states.

Is Winkley's Closing?

I found this in the Impact News:
.

Commercial property for rent.
909 N. Bell • Cedar Park, 9.414 sq. ft., $6,000/month, Agent: Pamela Cirkiel, M.E. Johnson, Realtors, 244-6655

If you have never been to Winkley's, you might want to make a point of stopping in and looking around before it's gone. Winkley's is a hardware store in the tradition of a bygone era. There aren't many like it around any more.

Green Heron at the Pond

There has been a green heron hanging out at our pond the last couple of days.

I think that the goldfish are too big for him to eat, but there are lots of frogs and tadpoles that would surely be on his menu!
