Where is Your Moximity?

Many of our readers have participated in the Moximity beta program ever since the launch, and it’s appearance in the iTunes App Store. Now the company has launched the companion website. You can check in at locations now from your laptop, and modify the radius of your search to see your friends. Depending upon your location on the map, you’ll see advertisements that are location-sensitive. The site is also integrated with Yelp, so you can see relevant reviews.

If you sync up Moximity with your Twitter and Facebook accounts, your Facebook friends will automatically become your Moximity friends, and your updates will get automatically posted to Twitter and your Facebook mini-feed. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Moximity yet, maybe because you don’t have an iPhone, this is your opportunity.

Thai Food in Georgetown?

When I was visiting "The Square" a couple of months ago, I noticed a sign on Seventh that announced "Dia Thai Cuisine Opening Soon." Huh? Thai in GT? Sounded good to me! I love Thai food, and have not been able to find a good, convenient place to go since I moved fto GT rom Northwest Austin in 2001.

I'm no food critic -- so take this as you will -- but both my husband and I thought the food was great! My coconut and lemongrass soup with chicken was steaming hot, well spiced and perfectly delicious. In fact, the next day I found myself craving another bowl.

Dia Thai Cuisine is located at 114 E. Seventh St., Ste. 105 in Georgetown, Texas.

Texas couple's backyard yields rich discovery

SEGUIN, Texas - One day this past June, Floyd McKee hauled a load of topsoil from near the bank of the Guadalupe River, on which his property sits, and dumped it on the grass in his yard.

"It rained that night, and when I went out in the morning, the yard was covered with spear points," he said. "I got more dirt and sifted it and found a dozen more."

Surprised, McKee contacted local archaeologists Bob Everett and Richard Kinz, both of whom soon declared that McKee's property, near Starcke Park, was among the richest Paleo-Indian archaeological finds they had ever seen.

Buyers seeing higher prices this pumpkin season

October is here, and that means that bright orange pumpkins can be seen in fields and on doorsteps around Central Texas.

Pumpkin buyers will be met with higher prices around the state; pumpkins are averaging about 13 cents a pound, while the average price over the last 10 years was six cents a pound.

Pumpkin growers are seeing a diminished supply, partially because there were heavy rains later in the growing season.

Annual Haunted Hayride October 30

Come out to the San Gabriel Park Community Center for the Annual Haunted Hayride and Carnival! Hayrides begin at 6:00 p.m. and take you along the trails hrough the San Gabriel Park.

Bring the little ones early, but be ready to be scared closer to dark! Carnival hours are from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Suitable for all ages. The carnival is free to enter, with a small fee at each booth for participation.

Hayride tickets: $3.00 ages 13 and up, $2.00 ages 5-12. Tickets sold until 8 p.m.

Art for Animals on October 19

Art for Animals, an art auction to benefit animals at the Georgetown Animal Shelter, will be held on Sunday, October 19. More than $8,000 was raised to benefit the shelter in the inaugural auction last year.

Silent and live auctions will include paintings, ceramics, and other hand-crafted items, as well as a variety of items from local businesses. Paintings made by the animals at the shelter also will be auctioned. The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center at 445 E. Morrow Street in San Gabriel Park. Attendees can enjoy scrumptious desserts and gourmet coffee.
